The Christmas season is about giving and helping those in need. While a Kickstarter campaign falls low on the list of charitable offerings, the projects on display are still the dreams of one or more people and dreams deserve to be pursued, win or lose.
21st Century RPG Management System 'Morningstar' Needs Your Support
There is an upcoming multi-platform Metroidvania title that could really use some of that Christmas magic: Caos Trigger: Golem. The game is a retro platformer, not only in look, but in gameplay. The recent resurgence of the 2D sidescroller, with titles such as Shovel Knight, combine the 80s and 90s style with some more modern elements. Caos Trigger is certainly keeping it old school and fans of the original Castlevania titles, which still play great to this day, should be interested.
Caos Trigger: Golem is from Dustycat Games, a team of programmers and designers from around the world (I imagine getting a conference call going must be particularly aggravating). The project is admittedly not as polished as other video game titles, they themselves even acknowledge that this is a steep undertaking. However, the underlying basics of the game look solid (you can download demo for PC and Android) and even if the campaign is unsuccessful, if you like what you see, you should support it so that the team does not get dissuaded from pursuing it further.

That having been said, they are asking for a lot and have not clearly specified what the money will be going towards, which can be a red flag. They do offer $1 donations, which given the amount they are looking for (50k) is little more than an empty gesture.
Head over to the Kickstarter Page to see for yourself and maybe toss them a donation. Perhaps we can all make this dream of theirs a reality. Or at least, give them the support they need to refine it further.
