Could the Xbox 360 be banned in the U.S.?

Last month, due to a patent-infringement case, a judge in Washington ruled against Microsoft which could limit the import of Xbox 360 consoles to the United States. The International Trade Commission found that Microsoft infringed on four Motorola patents with its Xbox gaming console.

According to MCV, ITC Administrative Law Judge David Shaw has now recommended against the continued sale of the Xbox 360 in the U.S

Microsoft made a statement saying that the ruling "is the first step in the process leading to the Commission's final ruling and has no immediate effect on the availability of Xbox 360 in the U.S. We remain confident the Commission will ultimately rule in Microsoft's favor in this case and that Motorola will be held to its promise to make its standard essential patents available on fair and reasonable terms."

If you haven't heard already, just this month, the Xbox 360 and Windows 7 were both banned in Germany, so if you thought something like this was impossible... think again. Although a final decision has not been made yet, if the ITC agrees with Judge Shaw, the verdict will be left ultimately up to President Barack Obama.

360 fanatics (especially the Halo players out there) keep your fingers crossed!
