If you’re in need of something new to get you over the wait for Legacy of the Void, Tindalos Interactive has exactly the high you need: Etherium, a new RTS game set for release in 2015.
The Steam Holiday Sale Rolls On
Tindalos and Focus Interactive have released a new gameplay trailer showing off four minutes of near final footage, and it’s sure to remind folks of all the things they love about that other space-age real time strategy game. The trailer voiceover wastes absolutely no time in giving newcomers the complete rundown of what Etherium is all about.
In a nutshell, it is this: Three empires. One galaxy. Your strategy. Players will take command of one of separate races; a corporate-minded human faction, a Protoss-esque race of enlightened beings and a twisted mechanical/organic hybrid species. All of you have come to this galaxy in search of the titular resource, etherium, for their own reasons.
Smite Championship Pot Reaches $2 MILLION
In watching the gameplay footage, it’s hard to see where Etherium may falter. The graphics look very rich - colorful, deep and dynamic enough that you can see the parts moving on all the massive war machines. The narrator reels through mechanic after mechanic: there are real time weather effects that can change the course of battle, cover, espionage, mind control, resource management, strategy. It’s as if they just threw it all against the wall and somehow, it all stuck.
There’s even a turn-based element. Yeah, you can set up your real time conflicts in the Conquest mode in which you “plan your tactics in turn-based, building invasion fleets, developing your technology tree to unlock new units and skills, spying on the enemy and sabotaging them, and ultimately invading their territories and planets in real-time strategic mode.”
There is hope in Etherium. We’ve been starved for a truly great alternative to Starcraft II, could this be a competitor? We’ll find out next month when Etherium hits. You can pre-order the game for a 10% discount via Steam today.
