While we should never directly support illegal file sharing, we should most assuredly support cleverness when we encounter it.

A new app called ‘Floppy Cloud’ has made its way onto the iOS App Store and lets you manage local files without that whole pesky cloud thing. The description says the app, “allows you to connect to remove services such as Dropbox or an FTP server and preview your files as well as downloading them locally, so that they are available anytime, even if you are in an area without wifi or cellular services.”
That alone would be worth the $1.99 developer Kyle Harkinson is asking for. That’s useful, especially in an age with spotty coverage everywhere and greedy corporations looking to suck all they can out of your data usage.

But the real beauty of it all comes courtesy of Touch Arcade: the app works as a backdoor game emulator. See, it allows you to download almost any file from the Cloud and open it, so if you happen to have a .NES or .SMC file, you’re suddenly playing Super Mario World right there on your phone.
There’s a long history of emulators being uploaded to the App store right before the Christmas freeze, but much like the Ghost of Christmas Present this will be gone as soon as the iOS store employees return from holiday break. PocketGamer has an excellent guide to backing up Floppy Cloud (oh irony of ironies) so you can keep it long after the ban hammer has annihilated it from the App Store.
Playing on a tiny screen could be quite difficult. We suggest getting an MFI controller to play any and all games you may download.
This truly is a Christmas miracle.
