Is multiplayer mode for the new “God of War” necessary?

The "God of War" franchise began in 2005 and progressed up until 2010. On April 19, Sony officially announced the release of "God of War: Ascension" for next year. The series has been pretty successful, demonstrating a strong single player mode. However, many have been questioning if the new multiplayer mode, to be introduced, will dampen the game's original gaming experience and/or if it's even necessary.

It has become a trend: many popular single-player games/series are converting to multiplayer. We witness single-player games that really had no need for a multiplayer mode, so then make the assumption that it's the company's attempt to boost sales or simply see how far they can take it.

According to Strategy Informer. Wedbush-Morgan analyst Michael Pachter does not believe this strategy will improve sales.

"It's an interesting move, and something I think gamers will like, but it's odd to see it in a third-person game, and especially odd because it's not a shooter," Pachter stated. "I think GoW fans will live it, but am not sure it will move the needle on sales."

As much as I love "God of War," I must admit, it'll take me some effort to reposition my usual single-player expectations, into multiplayer ones; but who knows, it might just suprise me in a good way. So I'll remain optimistic.

"God of War: Ascension" will be the final installment in the "God of War" series and is set to be released in the spring of 2013 on Playstation 3 consoles.
