Curt Schilling's 38 Studios Begins Lay Offs

38 Studios, the developer of "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" and financed by former pitcher Curt Schilling, began laying off staff last night according to Joystiq. Working off information from Ted Nesi, a political and economic reporter at WPRI Fox, the layoffs were all but confirmed but the exact details were unknown at press time.

The news came from Governor Lincoln Chafee, who acknowledged the layoffs were directly linked to 38 Studios having trouble meeting payroll and paying back their $1.125 million loan.

"I believe it was a mix of who's made payroll and a number of layoffs," Senator Chafee told ABC 6. The exact details between the state and Schilling's studio remain unconfirmed to the public. Schilling has repeatedly been heard telling reporters that there's more to the story and he can't say for now in regular sound bytes while in meetings with the Rhode Island Economic Development Board.
