We've been hearing about a possible all-female Ghostbusters movie for a while now but thanks to our friends at Sony and their terrible luck with hackers, we've got new information on what the movie may possibly look like. It seems that it wouldn't be a sequel, it would be a total reboot.
Mark Hamill Picks up Lightsaber for New Star Wars Film
In emails between Paul Feig and Sony chief Amy Pascal, Feig outlines some of his wacky ideas for a new movie. For starters, the movie may not be all that wacky according to Vulture. The original was a laugh a minute fun fest but this one might take an edgier turn as Fieg stated it would be "scarier and more hi-tech".
More high tech, one would hope, the original came out 30 years ago. Technology and special effects have improved quite a bit since then. But scary? That wasn't really the spirit of the first one.
Beetlejuice 2 will Reunite Original Cast and Director for New Film
Anyway, he goes on to suggest a possible villain for the film. A spectral murderer played by the excellent Peter Dinklage who after becoming a ghost gets the power to raise a ghost army. It would then be up to the four heroines to figure out how to save New York and the world.
Feig also suggests that the Ghostbusters work for the government who hires them but also discredits them constantly to keep the American public in the dark about the ghost threat.
These idea aren't set in stone but if any of them do happen to come true, this is shaping up to be a very different movie than the source material. Watch the trailer for the original below.
