Variant covers are pretty common practice in the comic book world: there's the original cover, and then there's a special cover done by, usually, a big name guest artist. Most recently, the Milo Manara variant for Spider-Woman (which Marvel ended up pulling) caused an uproar, but DC plans to release a series of variants that will be a bit more family friendly.
Even Aquaman Hates His Name in New Justice League Movie
The company announced that it will be celebrating Movie Poster Variant Cover Month, spoofing various famous films with stylized depictions of comic characters. This doesn't mean that you'll see Ben Affleck gracing the cover of Batman for the month, but homages to original art from select film franchises.
Artists have taken some of the most iconic movie posters of all time and substituted your favorites for the stars. These covers include takes on The Matrix featuring Batman and the crew, a Harley Quinn redo of Jailhouse Rock, Supergirl meets The Wizard of Oz, and my favorite, Superman meets Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures. Superman looks like a guy you'd want to hang out with--sneak peeks can be seen over at Screenrant.
Bill and Ted Are Returning, This Time in Comic Form
The list of comics that will receive fun covers is pretty large, so save your pennies if plan on grabbing them all. The covers will show up on Superman, Green Lantern Corps, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman to name a few and feature a variety of artists.
