Even as Developers Square Enix announced the release of Final Downloadable Content for Final Fantasy XIII-2, there seems to be no sign of a remake for Final Fantasy VII.
"There are a lot of people who want a remake of Final Fantasy VII. However, new titles take precedence," said Tetsuya Nomura, Character Designer for the Final Fantasy series in an interview with Japanese Magazine Famitsu. "We work our hardest to make something that might be even better than Final Fantasy VII. The new Final Fantasy must overcome the Final Fantasy of the past."
Square Enix have been developing new games instead of trying to bring out newer versions of the games that they have created.
"Despite heavy criticism of Final Fantasy XIII and a less than stellar performance from XIII-2, it's amazing to see that Square Enix is still determined to completely ignore what could be a massive gold mine. Final Fantasy VII has so many, many fans that the game would sell millions on launch day alone," reports ManaTank.
Final Fantasy VII is a role-playing video game and is the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy series. The game was released for Playstation in 1997 and was re-released for PC in 1998. In 2009, the game saw a release on the PlayStation Network. FF VII used 3D computer graphics with fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds combined with an epic story plot.
The game has been a huge commercial success selling over 10 million copies worldwide as of May 2010 becoming the best-selling title in the Final Fantasy series. It developed a cult following to make FF VII one of the most popular titles in its franchise.
A computer animated film spurred from the commercial success of the Final Fantasy VII game. Entitled Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the movie took place two years after the events from the game.
Over the years, fans have been hoping that the developers would come out with a remake of the game. Rumors have been on since 2005 for an enhanced remake for PS3, however there seems to be no development in that direction.
The game's Character Designer admitted that no remake of the game is in the pipeline. Fans would have to wait for new games that the developers are bringing out which was informed to be definitely better than Final Fantasy VII.
But the question is whether fans will be satisfied with it?
