Ubisoft released the first Assassin's Creed 3 gameplay trailer which unveiled the new Anvil engine, the most powerful and ambitious engine giving the protagonist Connor the ability for improved in-game interaction.
The trailer also showed full combat, weapons, moves that Connor utilizes in his assassination plots. Connor is seen with weapons like a tomahawk, trademark hidden blade, bow and arrow, pistol, musket, rope dart, and saw-tooth sword.
The game features enemies littered throughout the battlefield and in some scenes, Connor is cutting through multiple soldiers in order to reach his target. A variety of opportunities to attack opponents are revealed with Connor shooting down redcoats with a bow and arrow, axing soldiers in close combat, and even using enemies as human shields against zipping bullets.
Connor is also seen barrel-rolling through a block of housing units then leaping out of the window, emerging on the other side. This gives players a glimpse at how fluid the character's movements are and its quick-paced interaction with the surrounding environments.
The trailer shows the combat coming in fluid free form, which looks different from the Ubisoft's past Assassin's Creed titles. Connor uses weapons to kill one soldier and then proceeds to the next target for a combo attack.
"There is no more politely waiting around for enemies to lunge before countering them anymore," reports NowGamer.
Connor will also be able to employ a new two handed combat mechanic using the knife, tomahawk, and assassin's blade.
The artificial intelligence for enemies have improved, making targets more challenging to kill.
Redcoat soldiers will condense into groups of firing lines when threatened. An advantage is that the muskets they fire require a lengthy reloading time. This is where Connor can slide in and perform attacks before soldiers can fire off a new round.
Players will also have new gameplay controls such as a stalker mode and predator combat. Connor will be able to avoid detection if he is moving slowly and surprise attack enemies or assassinate targets before escaping out of sight in one fluid motion.
Assassin's Creed 3 has been taken out of American history with important personalities like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin introduced to play a role in the game's story.
Connor is descended from both Native Americans as well as the British. In the trailer, we see Connor exploring the world of Assassin's Creed travelling to different locations through the forests to the streets of Colonial towns.
Assassin's Creed 3 is set to be released on October 30, 2012 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
