Recent surveys from Goo Research and IGN have indicated that Nintendo's Wii U console is losing steam among gamers.
Among Japanese gamers, not even 8 percent will be interested in buying the Nintendo Wii U. It is the third survey that reported a decline in Nintendo's popularity.
Domestically, gamers in the US are showing more interest in Sony and Microsoft's next-gen console over Nintendo. According to IGN's Grate Gaming Survey, 63 percent of gamers are considering to purchase the PlayStation 4 while 61 percent are interested in Xbox 720, aka Xbox 8. 40 percent of the votes are considering the Nintendo Wii U.
Nintendo has taken steps to market their next-gen console at the upcoming E3 video game conference along with celebrity promotions from rapper Eminem. It is rumored that Eminem will promote a Nintendo game titled "Acid Ghost," according to Go Nintendo.
Another high profile supporter for Nintendo comes from Publisher Ubisoft, who claims that Nintendo's Wii U will be a successful platform and that they are happy with the functionality of the next-gen console.
"What is really interesting is the fact that we have this tablet that allows us to bring totally new gameplay, and also brings the possibility to have a lot more social functionalities, because you can have now a screen to play asynchronously with your friends, to receive challenges and to really have a screen to communicate with your friends. said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. "That is going to help tremendously the experience in video games."
"That the machine can have a great success, because it will bring to families a good machine. And this will be for gamers but also for all the social games that are generally sold on the Wii. Going after those two types of populations will give a good chance for that machine to have a great success," Guillemot further added.
Ubisoft will be launching seven titles within Nintendo Wii U's launch window. The games will consist of hardcore games which are expected to be Assassin's Creed 3 and Killer Freaks from Outer Space, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online.
Wii U will also come with five casual titles likely Avengers: Battle for Earth, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, and the new Super Mario.
Ubisoft has also mentioned the possibilities of the Just Dance series to come for the Wii U. The company has been one of the first publishers to support Nintendo's Wii U.
"Our goal is to continue to grow the brand with geographical expansion, and new platforms like Wii U," according to Ubisoft's Financial Presentation.
