In a press release yesterday, Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo announced a partnership with Cassandra Peterson's fabled Mistress of the Dark, Elvira. After being a Guest of Honor at 2011's Comikaze, Peterson expressed an interest in being involved, and is said to be taking a very active position in the planning of the event.
Comikaze CEO Regina Carpinelli said of Peterson, "Elvira is part of our pop culture history. Not only is Cassandra Peterson a pretty face, but she also brings so much to the table. She's one of the most brilliant businesswomen of our time, and has some fantastic ideas. I am so proud to call her our partner. I like to think of her as Mistress of the Board.
Peterson's Elvira was the result of an LA station's attempt at a revival of The Vampira Show, a mid 50's gothic themed variety show that became a cult hit. After the initial host left, Peterson was brought in and allowed to develop her own character. The end result was "Elvira's Movie Macabre." A tight fitting and low cut gown helped Elvira achieve fame, appearing in television shows, comic books, video games, and movies.
Famous guests of years pasts have included Mark Hamill, Morgan Fairchild, and Ernest Borgnine, among others. The largest comic convention on the West Coast, Comikaze will take place September 15th to the 16th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and will be the second year for the convention.
