Supermassive Games has released a new and thoroughly terrifying new trailer for their upcoming horror movie homage, Until Dawn. I know we’re all hunkering down in preparation for all the warmth and love of the holiday season, but let this trailer remind you that the world is not a very nice place.
Witcher III: Wild Hunt Delayed Until May 2015 To Ensure No Release Debacle
The trailer begins with a rendition of Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 - Prelude, or as it is widely known ‘that cello song everyone uses’ before bringing Sam, one of the female characters, back down to earth in a horrifying manner. The scene is culled straight out of an 80s slasher, with Sam sitting back for a relaxing shower, a moment of serenity before her nightmares begin.
In Until Dawn, players switch off between one of eight teenage characters who are spending a wintry weekend at a cabin in the woods. Since they obviously live in a world where horror movies don’t exist, they naturally do not see anything wrong this scenario. The game’s story subtly changes with every decision you make. Nor does it change on merely the big choices, such as deciding who lives or dies, but also on the smaller moments. Running or hiding, choosing to go up to the attic or down into the basement can have a profound effect on not only your fate, but the fate of your friends as well.

As Pete Samuels notes in the official PlayStation blog entry, “This is the Butterfly Effect mechanic in action.” A simple flap of your wings and a hurricane occurs half a world away.
Until Dawn is a PS4 exclusive horror title due out next summer. Fans of slasher movies will definitely want to check out the trailer below.
I am saddened that the famous cello suite did not make an appearance towards the end of the trailer. Horrific images set over beautiful music is a wonderful juxtaposition that never fails to move.
