With gamers still dynamically discussing "Diablo III," many may not have realized a very different game that was released on the same day. "Lightside Games released the first ever Jesus-based video game yesterday and there's already a lot of buzz. With almost 4,000 "likes" on its Facebook page, "Journey of Jesus: The Calling" is said to be "a fun, adventure quest game where you overcome obstacles, fulfill missions, and participate in miracles."
CEO and Founder of Lightside Games Brent Dusing said that the company started building this Facebook game towards the ending of last year. It explains the story of Jesus Christ during First Century Israel. Players are able to explore different areas, help people in the game, partake in miracles and gain more knowledge about Jesus and events in The Bible.
"We've been testing it for months," Dusing told GameNGuide. "The feedback is phenomenal. "[People like] the gameplay, graphics and story."
Dusing said that the company wants people to experience the story of Jesus.
"We build it to be engaging and fun," Dusing said. "[There are] a lot of great features in the game. We want people to learn the story of Jesus in a Biblically-grounded way."
Dusing said that there are 300 million people that play Facebook games and only Lightside is creating Biblical games.
"The time really seemed right," he said.
Although it may be too soon to tell the success of "Journey of Jesus," Lightside's "Journey of Moses" had a very successful launch last summer and was the first Biblical game on Facebook. According to Dusing, this game drew in over 2 million players.
Dusing made it a point to say that no matter what your walk of life is, you are welcomed to play "Journey of Jesus." Although it is based on The Bible, gamers who know nothing about the Word of God do not have to feel excluded.
"We hope everybody plays this game," Dusing said.
Lightside hopes to eventually be the mobile platform, as well.
