Will “Amazing Alex” fill the shoes of its “Angry Birds” counterpart?

Agitated-looking wingless birds of an assortment of colors, a slingshot, and green heads of smiling pigs, awaiting their fate within a structure of stone, wood or ice, were introduced to mobile users in 2009 and certainly swept the nation by storm. Although Rovio Entertainment (a video game and entertainment company based in Espoo, Finland) has only been around for seven years, it has already made its name well-known. The strategy puzzle and petrary physics game "Angry Birds," has sold endless copies and just last week announced its one billionth download across all platforms. This successful franchise offers four different versions of the game, and even goes as far as to market their brand on attire and other merchandise.

So, the question is: Will Rovio's recently announced mobile game "Amazing Alex" be just as successful?

"Amazing Alex" is a rebranding of "Casey's Contraptions," another physics-based game. According to CNN.com, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed told Finnish TV station, Yle, that ["Amazing Alex"] "has an educational element and centers on the main character, Alex, who loves to build things."

Fans have gotten the opportunity to fall into the addictive hands of special editions like: "Angry Birds Seasons," "Angry Birds Rio," "Angry Birds Magic," and the more recent, "Angry Birds Space" which was downloaded more than 10 million times.

"The quality pressure is high," Hed said. "We want to maintain the high standard 'Angry Birds' fans have come to enjoy."

"Amazing Alex" is expected to be released in two months.
