Diablo 3 and Max Payne 3, two of the most anticipated games of the year, has been released on the same day as both are expected to spark video games sales this month.
Diablo 3 an action role playing game, the third installment in the Diablo franchise, has raked in the most pre ordered PC game of all time for Activision Blizzard.
At the same time, Max Payne 3 have put tremendous marketing efforts to make it the biggest and boldest game in Rockstar Game's history.
Based on reports from VGChartz, Diablo 3 dominated the rankings with nearly 824,000 pre-order players. Max Payne 3 raked in over 158,000 pre orders for the Xbox 360 and over 123,000 for PlayStation 3. Despite having two consoles and a PC version, Max Payne 3's 281,597 fell short to Diablo 3's sole PC pre-order totals of 823,992.
Both were expected to be a hit with the games catering toward different audiences. Max Payne 3 is geared more towards the console player with its release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Diablo 3 is released solely for the PC gamers.
"Both games could be hits because they really do speak to different audiences," said Geoff Keighley, host of Spike network's GameTrailers TV and as reported in USA Today.
"Max Payne 3 is really going to cater to the console audience," Keighley adds.
For the PC game Diablo 3, "Blizzard really has its own community behind that game. I don't think they really are going to cannibalize each other at all. So we are going to have two blockbuster games in one month, which usually does not happen in May," according to the report.
Diablo 3 comes 12 years later as a sequel to Diablo 2. With two versions of the auction house system, gold-based and real-money based, players have the opportunity to play with real world currency.
The game features a visual encyclopaedia of the creatures with passive active skills for each character. There is also a crafting system overview with listings of base equipment items, weapons, armor, and accessories.
For the first time in the series, Max Payne 3 comes with multiplayer modes and returns to the world of Bullet time. It features classic run-and-gun shooting. The game comes with realistic momentum, graphics and gives a different dynamics to the game.
With successful launches of both games, the gaming industry can expected overwhelming hits and sales for the month of May.
