Could we be seeing the culmination of Patton Oswalt's epic Parks and Recreation rant? Owning both Marvel and Star Wars, Disney certainly is not ruling out the possibility that the two franchises could be making an appearance in an upcoming Kingdom Hearts game!
Final Fantasy XIV Patch 2.45 Preview Bits; New Update Launching Next Week
Speaking with Kotaku UK, Tai Yasue, the co-director of the in-development Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX said that "nothing's off limits."
He adds, "Yeah, I can't go into specifics, but there's a LOT of new Disney stuff and we have our plates full," said Yasue. "Theres a lot to consider - we're looking at all of Disney, the new ones as well, they have a lot of pull and draw."
Terminator: Genisys Gets Its First Trailer This Thursday
Look, I know we all love having our animated heroes from across the Disney universe interact with one another. Mickey and Aladdin? Donald and Simba? But if you can give us the chance for Wolverine to battle Boba Fett or have Princess Leia join forces with all the other Disney princesses, why would you ever deny us that? If you got into game development without being influenced by either Marvel comics or Star Wars, I think you may be in the wrong industry, sir.
"We have to come up with a world that has a lot of originality. We want variety in our new Kingdom Hearts, so we don't want too many of one sort of world, that would look the same. For each world there has to be some meaning for it, in the plot; in Birth By Sleep, for instance, in the Cinderella scene, the characters learn something specific by relating to Cinderella."
"Also, gameplay-wise, is that world something that would make gameplay fun? There's a lot I can't say, but there's so much to consider." Oh, I'm sorry, lightsabers aren't fun? Eight inch retractable adamantium claws are not fun? Those are, in fact, the very definition of the word.
Yasue ends by saying, "Nothing's off-limits, we're considering all of the worlds. There are so many wonderful concepts. We're happy about that, but at the same time it's really tough to choose."
All of them. You choose all of them.
