While most movie tie-in games feature the events of the movie (with some extras thrown in), the Amazing Spider Man is set to take place completely after the events of the movie.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources, head of Beenox studio Dee Brown described the game as the next evolution of Spider-Man, saying the game will have a unique plot, but still based on events and characters from the film. Gamers should be happy to learn that Manhattan is once again open to exploration, a facet lacking from the most recent Spider-Man games. Speaking on the size of the virtual metropolis, Brown said, "I personally have not been able to play through the entire game. There'll be a lot to do in the game."
To aid in the exploration is the "web-rush" system, a sort of bullet-time for Spidey, where time slows down and players see thing from Spider-man's point of view, allowing them to hurdle over various obstructions in a flurry of acrobatic ability and agility (Spidey Parkour).
Pre-orders from Game Stop will allow players the option to play as the Rhino and unleash total destruction across Manhattan. But players who pre-order from Amazon will be able to play as the godfather of comics, Stan "the Man" Lee. Players get to swing Stan around, spidey style, looking for pages from his latest script.
The Amazing Spider Man game is due out June 26.
