Game company Activision and Sony will be teaming up to present a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle pack for the PlayStation 3.
The $299 bundle includes a 320 GB PlayStation 3 slim, a dual shock controller, and of course a copy of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game. In a posting on the PlayStation's official blog, Associate Brand Marketing Manager of Hardware, Crystal Mackenzie, announced the bundle pack in more detail.
"Today we are announcing a Limited Edition PS3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle which includes a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the hit title that set a new entertainment launch record upon its release in November, and a 320GB PlayStation 3 System, for only $299,,"said Mackenzie.
No official release date has been given though it is expected to hit stores soon. The COD: Modern Warfare 3 bundle release follows a strong quarter of revenue numbers for Activision Blizzard. The game company recorded revenues of $1.17 billion thanks to strong brands in Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Skylanders Spyro's Adventures.
"Our better-than-expected first-quarter performance was driven by global consumer demand for Activision Publishing's Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3, and Skylanders Spyro's Adventures(TM), as well as Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft® which remains the #1 subscription-based MMORPG in the world," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard,
Activisions' success stemmed from its Call of Duty Elite services which holds 10+ million registered users, World of Warcraft's 10+ million subscribers, and Diablo 3's newly set all-time pre order records at Blizzard.
The largest money cow for the company lies in its massive multiplayer online title World of Warcraft as it remains the top subscription based MMORPG in the market. Call of Duty has also seen strong revenues empowering its franchise through Modern Warfare and its Black Ops series. Its Elite multiplayer services have also garnered success with 10 million users and increasing its numbers by 33 percents since the end of January.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 became the fastest selling video game in history since its launch. The game's players are logging in over 1.6 billion hours of online gameplay.
To add to Activision's momentum, the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will likely maintain strong sales for the COD franchise.
"Hands down, this is the most ambitious Call of Duty ever," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
"We are bringing disruptive innovation to the franchise and we are doing it on several fronts. We're pushing the boundaries technologically, graphically, and from a narrative and gameplay perspective," added Hirshberg.
Since the game's trailer debut, consumer responses have been positive as its first trailer had 82 percent more views than its sister game title Modern Warfare 3.
