The news was confirmed today over on The Game Awards' website: Kojima will set foot in Las Vegas for the first time to show off the rebirth of the Metal Gear franchise's online multiplayer game. Kojima is also among the show's impressive lineup of industry advisors.
Metal Gear Online took the stealth combat gameplay the series was known for and placed it into a competitive multiplayer formula, allowing up to 16 players to duke it out as the world's best soldiers. Metal Gear fans haven't seen Metal Gear Online since the summer of 2012, when the game's servers were shut down. The PS3 game went out to players around the world as part of a bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 – though it started life as a part of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Now, the competitive multiplayer stealth shooter is coming back with a vengeance as a part of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is set to release sometime next year.
