Minecraft News: 1.8.1 Update Nears Release As Xbox One Retail Edition Hits Shelves

Minecraft Version 1.8.1 Is Almost Here, But The Xbox One Retail Edition Is Already Here

Following up Minecraft's 1.8 "Bountiful Update," the 1.8.1 update looks to be only days away from release, bringing an armada of bug fixes along with it.

Minecraft Pocket Edition Just Got The "Less Buggier" 0.10 Update

Minecraft 1.8.1 is now in its fifth pre-release, and developers estimate that a full release should go live on Monday unless this fifth build breaks something significant. The 1.8.1 update won't be required for players, but it does bring in a crazy amount of bug fixes, which is probably necessary after a content update as massive as 1.8. To see the full fix list that 1.8.1 is bringing to the game, you can head over to the patch notes.

In other Minecraft news, one of the newest ports of the game has now broken its digital bindings and can be found on real-life store shelves. Yesterday was a big launch day, with many big-name franchises rolling out new iterations for consoles and PCs, so it's alright if you missed the fact that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition hit store shelves along with the other big releases yesterday.

It's Official: Microsoft Owns Mojang

Xbox One players can now pick up a physical copy of game that redefined sandbox gameplay for $19.99. If you already have a copy for Xbox 360, though, you might want to skip the physical Xbox One copy and spring for the digital version. You'll get a special $4.99 upgrade price that way.

Minecraft most recently was ported to the PS Vita. The next platform to get the game should be the Windows Phone, when the confirmed port of Minecraft Pocket Edition releases.
