Game company Ubisoft issued an official statement that confirms the development of Rayman Legends along with a leaked video of gameplay.
The nearly two-minute game trailer reveals not only a peek at Ubisoft's upcoming title but also new features on the Nintendo Wii U controllers that utilize near field communication, NFC, technology.
Ubisoft released a full statement referencing the leaked trailer.
"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features," stated Ubisoft. "This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits."
Today's statement will squash rumors about a possible Rayman title in the works. It would also confirm that Nintendo's next-gen console's controllers will integrate NFC technology that uses tags to interact with objects.
Rayman Legend's leaked video shows off its multiplayer mode where four players used the Wii U tablet controllers to manipulate the game's level environment. Players are seen placing figurine objects atop the Wii U tablet and translating them into interactive items for the game.
The visual graphics, though does not represent the final product, looks equal to the current gen console versions. Conceptually, the game looks to continue its success from past titles as the graphical layout appears to mimic previous Rayman games. Ubisoft plans to enhance graphics with its epic rendering engine, which will produce 3D looking visuals in a 2D side-scrolling platform game.
In terms of graphical capabilities it seems to be on par with what we've seen from recent PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Rayman Legends boosts an all new "epic rendering engine," which makes everything look a touch more 3D than in Rayman Origins. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference though, as the art style is very much in keeping with the last game.
