Marking the 20th anniversary of the Kirby game series, Nintendo has revealed plans to launch a new Kirby title and "Super Mario Bros. 2" for the Nintendo 3DS, across North America in August.
The special anniversary pack would include a special compilation game disc containing a variety of previously released fan-favorite Kirby games. Players should also watch out for additional Kirby anniversary activities which will be revealed later. The news came in the bi-monthly Nintendo Direct web broadcast.
"A new Mario game and a big Kirby celebration will help make 2012 an especially great year for Nintendo fans," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.
"Whether they're playing at home on Wii or using Nintendo 3DS to have fun on the go, players can look forward to experiencing some of our biggest franchises in exciting ways," Moffitt added.
Super Mario Bros. 2 will be Nintendo's new side-scrolling Mario adventure featuring Mario, Luigi, and lots of other favorite characters from the popular Mario franchise. The game was created specifically as a pick-up-and-play experience and players of all skill levels can instantly enjoy it on Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo fans can also look forward for the launch of Mario Tennis Open for Nintendo 3DS on May 20. The game invites players to step onto the court with Mario and his friends for fast-paced tennis action and a mix of remarkable new tennis challenges.
Mario Tennis Open will allow players to customize their own Mii characters and choose from approximately 200 special items, including rackets and tennis gear which also has the capacity to modify their abilities. Fans can get ready to suit up their Mii characters with outfits that resemble and offer the skills of popular Nintendo characters and swing into action in local and wireless Internet multiplayer modes that let families and friends play together.
Lastly, Nintendo will also be including a system update for the Nintendo 3DS scheduled for April 25. Players will now be able to create folders in the Home menu for improved organization and its online store provides better recommendations.
