Tales From The Borderlands Premiere Trailer: Pricing Revealed, First Episode Set To Release For Consoles, PCs And Mobiles This Year

Tales From The Borderlands Finally Has A Real Trailer

The Borderlands franchise is having quite the year. The universe is doubling the size of its canon by adding two new games into the series. The first, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, is a traditional Borderlands game that has been out for a little bit now. The other game, set to release sometime this year, is not your traditional Borderlands experience. Tales from the Borderlands is an upcoming episodic, narrative-based game from Walking Dead developer Telltale Games that's set in the Borderlands universe. We don't have a set release date yet, but it is set to launch sometime this year. And now we at least have a premiere trailer to stare at and get a good first look at the game.

The first episode of the five episode-game, titled "Zero Sum," is set to hit consoles, PC, iOS and Android by the end of the year. On PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, each episode will be available for $4.99, with a five-episode season pass costing $19.99. On Xbox 360 and Xbox One, each episode is also $4.99, but the season pass will be available as a $14.99 upgrade that includes Episodes 2-5 instead of a five-episode bundle. The entire series will also be available on PC and Mac over Steam and other platforms for $24.99.

No pricing has been announced for the mobile versions.

Telltale's Game Of Thrones Series Is Six Episodes Long And Launches "Soon"

Tales from the Borderlands includes voice talent from actors like Patrick Warburton, Chris Hardwick and, newly announced, video game voice-over veteran Troy Baker. As the premiere trailer spells out, the game's story takes place after the events of Borderlands 2. The narrative breaks away from the "glamorous" life of the universe's Vault Hunters, instead following the story of aspiring corporate leader Rhys – Baker's character – and con artist Fiona, played by Laura Bailey.

As a Telltale game, Tales will forgo the shooter gameplay of Borderlands past. The game is controlled primarily through dialog trees and narrative choices. Telltale has worked with series creator Gearbox throughout the development process, though, so the events of the game will still be able to be considered canon for the franchise as a whole.

Tales doesn't have a specific release date yet, but the end of the year is quickly approaching. Telltale has said that Episode 1 should roll out over all platforms by the end of 2014, so expect to see a surprise release date to pop up one of these days.
