Android has announced that the operating system's 5.0 Lollipop update has begun rolling out for most Nexus devices, and owners should be able to upgrade soon.
AT&T Reveals On-Contract Pricing For Nexus 6 As The Provider's Preorders Page Goes Up
Announced over Twitter (thanks, 9to5Google), the rollout means that many Nexus devices – specifically the Nexus 4 and 5 smartphones and the Nexus 7 and 10 tablets – should start to see the option to upgrade soon.
Android 5.0 Lollipop first showed up on Google's newest Nexus devices, the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus 6 phone. A handful of other Android smartphones actually started getting the update before Google's own Nexus line did, but now it looks like the rest of the Nexus family is finally playing catch-up.
Perhaps the most noticeable change in the Android 5.0 update is a reformatted user interface, created using what Google calls "Material Design." The new UI helps to add realistic lighting and shadow to your digital displays, which is said to make Android devices easier to navigate. The update also adds more connectivity to Android devices, which is helpful now that things like watches and TVs are now eligible to run on Android.
5.0 Lollipop changes the way Android devices handle notifications, making that system less intrusive, and it's introducing new battery saver features to make sure your phone can last even longer on one charge. Finally, added security features aim to make sure that your phone or tablet responds only to you. You can check out the full list of added features over here.
