In honor of next week's launch of Far Cry 4, Ubisoft released the game's "101 Trailer" today, giving fans a quick briefing about every aspect of the game. More interestingly, the trailer gives a great opportunity to see where the game still looks similar to Far Cry 3 and where the game looks to be breaking new ground for the franchise.
Sorry 80s Fans, Far Cry 4 Will Not Have A Blood Dragon 2
Obviously, the story of Far Cry 4 is a new feature. Ajay Ghale arrives in his home country of Kyrat to scatter his mother's ashes, but he's soon caught up in a civil war that his parents helped start when he was a baby. Ajay will get to interact with several of the major political players of Kyrat, including tyrant Pagan Min, his lieutenants and two rebel leaders who have different visions for the future of Kyrat. Throughout the game, Ajay will get to choose what philosophy he wants to side with, and these changes are said to have meaningful effects on the rest of the narrative. This is in contrast with Far Cry 3, where the only narrative choice was given to the player at the very end of the game.
A lot of the gameplay in Far Cry 4 has very definitive roots in Far Cry 3, however. The player is still forced to capture radio towers to reveal parts of the map and take down enemy camps to make Kyrat a safer place for Ajay and his allies. The upgrade trees allow the player to choose between investing in stealth, strength or a little bit of both every time he levels up.
Make Sure Your PC Can Run Far Cry 4 Before You Run Out And Get It
One unique feature of Far Cry 4 highlighted in the trailer is the Shangri-La location, which looks like it's a setting completely separate from the regular map. Here, Ajay has the opportunity to fight against new kinds of enemies in a mystical setting where the laws of physics don't seem to always apply.
Far Cry 4 is also innovating with its new focus on co-op gameplay and its asymmetrical competitive multiplayer. In competitive multiplayer, players can choose to play as the mystical Rakshasa archers or the heavily armed Golden Path as they face off across a number of traditional game modes.
If you're thinking about picking up Far Cry 4 when it launches next week, the trailer is worth a watch. It goes through the highlights of all of the weapons, vehicles and side missions that will be available in the game.
Far Cry 4 will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on November 18.
