News of The Dark Knight Rises having over an hour of IMAX footage is sure to rev up more excitement for director Christopher Nolan's latest Batman movie.
Fans were already thrilled to hear about The Dark Knight Rises third trailer hitting theatres with the Avenger's debut on May 4. According to reports from MarketWatch, the new Batman film will have more IMAX footage than its predecessor The Dark Knight, which had 40 minutes. It broke The Dark Knight's record for featuring the most IMAX footage in a major feature movie.
The Dark Knight filmed exciting action sequences with the IMAX cameras including its memorable opening scene with the Joker, skyscraper diving in Hong Kong, and the Batmobile chase through Gotham City.
One can guess which major scenes The Dark Knight Rises will be featured with IMAX footage.
From seeing past trailers, some probable candidates include the large brawl in front of a snowy courthouse steps where Bane and Batman battle amongst a crowd of chaos.
Nolan's new line of vehicles could deserve an IMAX shot. One quick clip revealed a new Batwing plane tailgating a fleet of camouflaged Batmobiles.
At the end of the first TDKR trailer, fans watched a hulking Bane back down a retreating Batman. Could this be an epic final battle that was captured on IMAX?
Whichever IMAX scenes The Dark Knight Rises reveals on May 4, director Christopher Nolan ensured consistence and quality in each filming.
"Warner Bros. would have been very happy, but I said to the guys there that I wanted it to be stylistically consistent with the first two films and we were really going to push the IMAX thing to create a very high-quality image," said Nolan.
"But, in each case, as a filmmaker who's been given sizable budgets with which to work, I feel a responsibility to the audience to be shooting with the absolute highest quality technology that I can and make the film in a way that I want...When I look at a digitally acquired and projected image, it looks inferior against an original negative anamorphic print or an IMAX one," added the director.
The final chapter of Nolan's Batman trilogy will be considered an epic. Footage shot with IMAX cameras can achieve this by recording on a larger film frame and can display greater resolution compared to conventional film systems. IMAX is trending as recent blockbuster films utilized the technology for The Hunger Games, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Men in Black 3 and Dark Shadows are utilizing the technology.
