Crowds gathered to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year will be treated to a lot of familiar balloons soaring over the streets of Manhattan. Pikachu, Spongebob, Bugs Bunny, friends from all eras. Joining them this year, however, will be a new cartoon creature: Eruptor.
Brand New Pikachu Balloon Coming To The Macy's Parade
Eruptor is a Skylander, that game your nephew will be insisting on playing this Thanksgiving when your brother and his family arrive. We reported yesterday that a Skylander would be floating alongside everyone's favorite electric rat at this year's parade and thought nothing of it, simply because Skylanders are so ubiquitous that we were fairly certain they had gone back and time and incepted themselves into our collective memories.
The giant red Skylander is described thusly: "Eruptor hails from deep in the underground of a floating volcanic island that launched his entire civilization to the surface after a massive eruption. He's a complete hot head - steaming, fuming, and quite literally erupting over almost anything."
New Disney Infinity 2.0 Starter Pack Released
To truly capture Eruptor's shiny physique, balloon artists used over 40 gallons of fluorescent red paint and five barrels of glitter (which is, if the correct definition of barrel is applied, over 200 gallons of glitter), or roughly the equivalent of glitter applied to faces at any given Justin Bieber concert.
It's easy to understand why Skylanders has joined the ranks of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade after debuting in 2011. The characters are great for kids, the colors pop and the franchise has made a good deal of money. The newest title Skylanders Trap Team is now available for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS and even on tablets.
Truly, we are the ones who have been trapped. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be aired live on NBC starting at 9 a.m. on November 27.
