Far Cry 4 Leaked Achievements Show Details Of Story Choices, Hint At Unannounced Multiplayer Mode

Far Cry 4's Leaked Achievements Show Off The Game's Decision-Making Gameplay And Hint At Unannounced Content

Far Cry 4's full list of achievements is now out in the open. Most of it conforms to what we already know about the game, but a few new details can be gleaned from the list. These details aren't official, so if you're looking to go into the game blind, this might be a good time to stop reading.

Far Cry 4 Season Pass Details Announced, Includes Yeti

The first bit of new information hints at a so-far unannounced multiplayer mode called "Battles of Kyrat," mentioned in an achievement called "Renaissance Man." Though Ubisoft has been advertising Far Cry 4's co-op gameplay pretty aggressively, the wording on the achievement suggests that this game mode is competitive multiplayer. Considering the latest Far Cry 4 trailer introduced us to the gladiatorial combat of Kyrat the player will get to participate in, the game definitely has plenty of infrastructure for some competitive gameplay.

The next little piece of new information comes from an achievement called "Fixer-Upper," which mentions a Ghale Homestead that Ajay can upgrade through purchases. This kind of base-building gameplay has been a staple of Assassin's Creed games since 2009, so it looks like Ubisoft is seeing how this mechanic works in another of its franchises.

Finally, the first several achievements reveal just a little more about the game's choice-based storytelling. Ubisoft very early on talked about how the player's choices in Far Cry 4 would tangibly affect the world around him, but now we can see just how that will happen. For every major character in the game, there is an achievement where Ajay will get to "decide their fate," which will probably boil down to whether you show them mercy or dispose of them forcefully. Far Cry 3 only contained one "press X to be good and Y to be bad" choice at the very end, so it seems like Ubisoft is trying to make that kind of gameplay a more central part of the storytelling in Far Cry 4. We'll have to wait and see, though, if the choices are meaningful or simply a good vs. bad alignment test.
