We already know plenty about Arno Dorian, our protagonist in Assassin's Creed Unity. With Ubisoft's new Characters Trailer, though, we get to learn more about much of the game's supporting cast, including complicated love interest Elise, notorious tyrant Napoleon Bonaparte and erotic author Marquis de Sade.
Assassin's Creed Unity Xbox One Bundle Announced
Elise is bound to be a major character in Unity, but we've seen surprisingly little of her in the game's advertising. As Arno's childhood friend, the fact that she becomes a Templar makes the developing romance plot between them complicated and intriguing. She's a very powerful character, proving just as deadly as Arno, and the player should be hooked watching her transformation from an energetic child into a cynical Templar hell-bent on revenge.
Another interesting character we get to officially meet is soon-to-be dictator Napoleon Bonaparte. Though the not-so-short-in-person leader hasn't become his infamous military tyrant self yet, his tactical brilliance still causes Arno to see him as a powerful ally.
Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Improves On The Assassin's Creed Formula While Retaining Its Faults
In the previous story trailer, Napoleon looked like he was acting friendly with our protagonist. The characters trailer, however, looks to confirm that the two will be at least amiable comrades, if not flat out friends. Unity's story might even end before Napoleon's dictatorial rule begins, leaving players knowing what's going to become of him without needing to spell it out in the narrative.
The trailer also introduces players to some of the more prominent historical figures that Arno will meet. The Marquis de Sade is historically best known for his libertine attitudes and erotic literature. In Unity, that side of him is certainly present, but he also demonstrates a surprisingly calculating mind that makes him an unlikely but useful ally of Arno.
Maximilien de Robespierre, famous for his bloody Reign of Terror following the fall of the French monarchy, looks to be filling the role of the primary antagonist for the game. Although as franchise fans are well aware, the most visible antagonist is rarely the most powerful enemy in the game.
Assassin's Creed Unity will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC systems on November 11.
