Draw Something, the highly popular app, has become the latest exploitation by scammers.
Hundreds of millions of users have downloaded the Pictionary style game app which took the mobile world by storm in recent weeks. Many of those players who use Twitter have become victims to the latest scheme.
Scammers trick unsuspecting users into handing over their personal information for an opportunity to win a non-existent prize. The scam starts by sending tweeters a message that they have a chance at winning one of 5,000 prizes in a lucky drawing. Those who visit the website drawsomethingwinner.com are asked to take a survey where they input personal information to the scammers.
IT security firm, Sophos, is issuing out warnings to Twitter and Draw Something users about the latest scam.
"Your chances of ever receiving a prize are remote - but you will be handing over personal information to the crooks behind the scam," said Sopho's Sr. Technology Consultant, Graham Cluley.
Investigations are under way in attempting to close down the site. In the meanwhile, Sophos advised users to be on the lookout for other forms of scams that may exploit the popular app's high number of players.
OMGPOP, the creators of 'Draw Something' has become a recent sensation with its digital version of Pictionary being downloaded more than 35 million times.
