DC Entertainment revealed that Mortal Kombat X will be getting its own komic book series at the New York Komic Kon.
Netherrealm Sorcerer Quan Chi Confirmed For MKX
The series, set to release in January, will serve as a narrative prequel to the next installment in the iconic fighting game series. The game is introducing many new characters (kharacters?) to the lineup, several of whom we have already met. Joining series standbys like Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat X will introduce fighters like Cassie Cage (Johnny's daughter), Kotal Kahn and D'Vorah, with several more expected to be announced in the months before release.
For a fighting game, the Mortal Kombat franchise has quite an extensive, if sometimes ridiculous, storyline and canon. The purpose of the comic is to introduce series fans to how these new characters interact with the old ones, giving the game a pre-existing narrative bedrock to build from once it comes out in April.
Ermac And Smoke May Have Been Leaked For MKX
Of course, no one seems more excited than series co-creator Ed Boon, who remains the best source for Mortal Kombat news around.
DC has already released two covers for the comic book starring Scorpion and Sub-Zero in all of their stylized glory. Boon was also kind enough to share art for Raiden as well, which you can find below.
Mortal Kombat X (the game) is set to release on April 14, 2015, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The comic should be out by January.
