Sennheiser, a big player in the audio world, has announced the release of two special edition models of the company's Momentum on-ear headphones that are inspired by Google's augmented reality game Ingress.
Ingress Introduces New Objective-Based Missions Into The Game's Formula
The headphones come in black with two options for accent color – green or blue – representing the two factions in the game that asks players to walk around a city and capture portals in real-world locations using nothing but teamwork and their smartphones. The headphones also come emblazoned with the icon of the corresponding faction on the earcups.
Each pair of headphones comes with one of five different Ingress mod cards. These mod cards contain artwork pertaining to the game and include a code that can unlock items for players in the app itself.
Weighing a total of 160 grams (counting the included remote) and exerting less than a pound of force on the wearer's ears, the Momentum is a powerful gadget in a comfortable shell. Made by an industry leader like Sennheiser, you can rest assured that you're getting top-of-the-industry audio quality. Wired's review said that the original Momentums delivered "natural richness, sparkling clarity, expertly rendered mids, and smooth highs." The headphones are in the upper range in terms of price, though. The base price looks to be $199.95, though as of the time of this writing it's marked down to $149.95.
The special edition Ingress Momentum on-ear headphones from Sennheiser are set to ship out at the end of November, but they're up for preorder now. Ingress is available to download on iOS and Android.
