The recent string of successful openings for The Hunger Games and Mad Men's season 5 premiere had one common element, video games. Each utilized video games to market its opening film and show. Batman fans may be hoping that The Dark Knight Rises will follow in those footsteps.
Both The Hunger Games and Mad Men show were already well received before its debut and the addition of a video game boosted its marketing efforts.
The Dark Knight Rises sits in a similar position with fans waiting in anticipation for the final part of director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Whether it be an 8-bit, 16-bit, or fully rendered in 3-D, adding a video game element could do wonders in marketing for the much hyped film.
The recent string of Batman games have proved to be successful. Developed by Rocksteady Games, Batman: Arkham City won the 2012 Bafta award for best Action Game of the Year. The company's previous title, Batman: Arkham Asylum, won game of the year in 2010.
Rumors earlier this month from the UK site MCV spoke about a possible video game adaptation for The Dark Knight Rises.
It may come as a full retail release from Warner Bros. and not a small scale game such as The Hunger Game's app or Mad Men's YouTube version. Batman fans are hoping that the latest adaptation will not follow the footsteps of the Batman Begins video game or disband its development like The Dark Knight. No official word or confirmations have emerged.
Prior to The Hunger Game's movie debut, Lionsgate collaborated with the creators of Canabalt to release a 16-bit retro style iOS game featuring heroine Katniss Everdeen.
Hunger Games: Girl on Fire currently is the second most downloaded app in iPhone's Top Free Apps category. The movie currently raked in $152.5 million over the weekend and became third highest opening ever.
The popular AMC TV Show Mad Men, also promoted their own YouTube video game thanks to the developers from the Fine Bros. Players control Don Draper, the smooth taking cigarette smoking pitchman, as he talks his way to rescuing the ad firm Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Based on the player's decisions, Draper will end up in one of three possible conclusions.
According to AMC networks, the show's premiere last weekend drew in 3.5 million watchers. Compared with season four's premiered, the latest viewership increased by 21%
AMC network says Sunday's premiere telecast drew 3.5 million viewers. This marks a 21 percent growth over season four's premiere. AMC said Monday that the cumulative audience for the night's two airings of the debut episode was 4.4 million viewers.
