Though Rovio initially announced that their latest mobile app game Angry Birds Space will not see the light of day for Windows Phone 7 platforms, its CEO Mikael Hed took back their words to say that plans are underway for a WP7 version.
"We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7," Rovio Chief Executive Mikael Hed told Reuters. He dismissed any earlier mention about Rovio rejecting the platform.
It wasn't long ago that Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Peter Vesterbacka's comment caused grief for Nokia, a company which features the Windows operating system, saying that Rovio had no intentions or schedule
"It's a big undertaking to support it, and you have to completely rewrite the application," Rovio's chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka told Bloomberg, adding that the company has no plans or schedule to do that.
The highly popular Rovio games are topping the charts for the Android and iOS platforms. Missing Angry Birds Space from the Windows platform could deal a big blow to Microsoft and Nokia's smartphones. WP7 users and Nokia breathe a sigh of relief after the announcement.
"We are working closely together with Nokia to bring our games to their platforms," Hed said. "Our mutual goal is to bring the best possible experience to our fans, including all fans using Windows Phone devices."
The official Angry Birds Space launch features 60 different levels with more level updates scheduled in the near future for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android, Mac, and Windows. Those lovable yet destructive birds are sucked through a vortex into deep space along with their nemesis, the green pigs. Now they must utilize forces of gravity along with other objects in striking their targets.
Angry Birds Space is now available for .99 cents on the iPhone, iPod Touch and $3 for the iPad . A free Windows demo is available for download. Versions for the Amazon Kindle Fire and Nook are on sale for $2.99.
Android users can get a free ad supported version from Google Play. Non ad supported versions are sold for .99 cents and $2.99 for Android tablets.
