This War Of Mine, the latest from Anomaly creators 11 bit studios, promises to bring a whole new look into armed conflict. The game eschews the lone soldier paradigm that has been the mainstay of video games since their inception and is instead focusing on the civilians caught in the crossfire.

To that end, 11 bit studios is attempting to recreate a war-torn city with as much real world detail as they can.
"Civilians during war hardly look like those shown in Hollywood movies, with shiny teeth and combed hair, no matter the circumstances," says the dev team in a blog. That's why we decided we weren't using professional actors or anonymous 3D models as characters in the game. You will meet real people instead - us, our relatives, our friends. Regular folks, like you and us."

The studio released a short little video into the process of digital rendering. They used their programmer Olek as the template, transforming the regular-looking guy into a priest. The music alone evokes a fractured life, of a world gone to hell. Poor Olek doesn't have a good time in This War Of Mine.
Each of the many characters you meet, from the children to the old men to the soldiers who you will have to avoid, were created in this way.
No official release date has been set for This War Of Mine, though 11 bit hopes to have it out in Q4 of this year. It could be a sobering tonic after the digital bloodlust that will be bombarding us over the course of the next several months. Watch the character creator video below.
