The North American version of mobile game Puzzle And Dragons will start phasing out support for older iOS and Android operating systems in early 2015, the game's Facebook page announced.
Puzzle And Dragons 7.1.1 Update Hits North American Devices
According to the announcement, the game will only support Apple devices running iOS 6 or later and Android devices running Android 4.0 or later. These changes are set to occur early next year. As of now, the iOS version of PAD supports iOS 5.1 and later while the Android version supports operating systems all the way back to Android 2.3.
PAD players who are on devices that won't support these new operating system requirements will need to upgrade to a new device to continue playing. Fortunately, the transfer process for the game is easy. A few simple clicks in the game's Others menu can let a user request a device change code. If they end up getting a new device and downloading Puzzle and Dragons, the game can restore all of that player's game data onto the new device so dragon collecting and training can resume uninterrupted.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes And Punishments Review
With Apple's new release of iOS 8 – as well as its three rumored updates – and whispers about Android's 4.5 software upgrade coming as soon as October, it's not surprising that the team behind PAD feels it's time to make development easier. Finding the time to support all of the new mobile operating systems as well as all of the older ones (which are probably used only by a very small percentage of mobile users), can take a toll on development. Maybe this change will help ease the developmental delay between when the Japanese version of the game gets an update and when North American players finally see it over here.
Puzzle and Dragons is free to play on both iOS and Android.
