In two weeks, Jane Jensen, former Sierra game designer, one of the first women in the industry and creator of the much loved southern gothic mystery series Gabriel Knight, will be rereleasing the 20th Anniversary edition of the first adventure, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.
Shadow Of Mordor Reviews Are In And They're...
Technically, it's the 21st anniversary, but we'll let that slide. For those of you kids who missed it, the Gabriel Knight series are some of the most loved adventure titles from the glory days of the genre and they represent the first foray into mature, adult storytelling. We use the word 'mature' a bit differently back then; this isn't all grim and gritty Batman-esque suffering, but rather by adults for adults and dealing with personal and social issues. There's not a lot in the way of action in the entire trilogy, something that would be night unheard of these days.
But 1993 was a long time ago. Beloved as it is, visually, the game hasn't held up well. Considering that is the only thing that hasn't held up, well, that's something else entirely. But a 20 year anniversary is as good an excuse as any to introduce a whole new generation to the series.
F.E.A.R Online Launches In Mid-October
The latest video interviews Jensen and several other game designers about the effect Gabriel Knight has had on their own gaming development, and in some cases, their own games. There are hundreds of games that get released each year, and only a handful may ever reach a large audience. Of those, only a few are remembered. And of those, perhaps one or two become legend. Gabriel Knight is a legendary title in the industry and the new edition is precisely the kind of homage such a game like it needs.
