We are perilously close to Broketober, the annual gaming event where wallets are emptied, girlfriends are forgotten and time vanishes. This year due to calendar scheduling, Broketober comes a bit early. On September 30, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, one of the more unique titles in the AAA heavy-time, is hitting next and last-gen consoles. Developer Frogwares has released the official launch trailer today.
Witness All The Pretty Little Crimes In The New Sherlock Holmes
The trailer takes a look at one of the six cases players will be tasked with solving. Players assume the role of Sherlock Holmes, who comes with an impressive array of deductive reasoning skills, but how you utilize those unique talents is up to you. You're not just playing Holmes, you're being Holmes (alas, this does not make you Benedict Cumberbatch). The game will test your own reasoning skills in what I can only assume is some sort of Last Starfighter-esque secret MI5 recruitment process.
Like life, the game isn't cut and dry. Every investigation relies on you to make the final decision, and when you choose, you may never know what the 'right' choice was. "Choose the leads you wish to pursue, interrogate your suspects and, from your deductions, name the guilty parties... and determine their fate wisely, as surprising consequences may arise where you least expect them." Life moves on, even if you can't.
One Does Not Simply Walk Into Shadow Of Mordor Without This Tell-All Trailer
The game is the first in the Sherlock Holmes series to utilize the Unreal Engine 3, which certainly makes it the most sumptuous looking Holmes title to date. This should also mean an end to the Creepy Watson phenomenon; though the developers have lovingly gotten in on the joke.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments will be out next week for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3. Watch the official launch trailer and get your reasoning skills honed, you're going to need them.
