Metal Gear Creator, Kojima, Planning New Innovative Game

The acclaimed Metal Gear Solid franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary.  Creator Hideo Kojima shared some information about his next upcoming project 'Ogre' which will deal with some 'pretty delicate and taboo' issues.

"The game I'm working on right now is dealing with quite a few issues that are pretty delicate and taboo. I'm not sure if they'll end up being in the final product or not, but that's something that I want to continue to strive for.  What I'm making right now, in my mind, is the best," said Kojima, transcribed by Shack News.

Running on the FOX engine, he notes that it will be flexible enough to perform on various platforms.  One thing Kojima confirmed was that the new project will not be for the Nintendo Wii.  He wishes to avoid misconceptions that the project is tied down to any particular hardware.

The MGS series and Konami have become a household name for gamers.  Kojima, who turns 50 years old this year, plans to continue making games until the day he dies.

"Honestly, I really don't know in 25 years from now if I'll still be making Metal Gear, or even if Konami will still be around - I really can't say. But I can say that if I'm not dead by that time I will still be making games in some form. I don't have any intention of retiring - until the day I die I will be making games. Maybe by that time technology will be so advanced that I can make a game all by myself by using a bunch of robots. Who knows?"

Kojima had other topics to discuss including the need for game developers to innovate or die.  He shared his game design philosophy, that constant evolution and straying from the safe path.  Kojima spoke of Japan's current gaming industry, where the lack of vision is plaguing creativity.  Japan's game development have been boxed in locally, finding success only in its hoe country, and not performing globally to attract a world audience.

Project Ogre will look to continue on Kojima's legacy and philosophy of innovation in game design.
