At Tokyo Game Show 2014, Bandai Namco revealed the newest addition to the Tekken pantheon. Latina fighter Catalina is sure to join the ranks of Anna and Nina Williams and Jun Kazama as a fan-favorite.
Tekken 7 Being Tested At Select Arcades In Japan
Check out the embedded video below for the announcement at Tokyo Game Show. Katsuhiro Harada, longtime Tekken game director says Catalina will be "sassy-mouthed" and apparently also "vocal in-game". A sassy, loud-mouthed Latina? Well, all the fighters in Tekken are pretty broad stereotypes, I guess! Catalina is meant to be a newb-friendly combatant, and a clear signpost for a return to accessibility after the hardcore-oriented Tekken Tag Team Tournament 2.
Her style, Savate, is actually a French - not Latino - martial art, designed to allow graceful punching and only foot kicks (no shins or knees). You may have recently seen a form of it practiced by Georges St. Pierre who played the mercenary Batroc in the opening action sequence of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Pokken Tournament Not Tekken Boss' Original Plan For Series
Catalina will be joining Heihachi, Kazuya, Kazumi, Jin, Lars Alexandersson and an unnamed Arabian female fighter for the seventh instalment of the fighting game franchise. We will keep you up to date whenever other fighters (such as Gon or the Williams sisters) are announced.
Tekken 7 will come to consoles and PC, using Unreal Engine 4, at an unspecified date in the future.
