The annual Tokyo Game Show is under way. Monolith and Warner Bros Interactive were on hand to debut a new trailer for the upcoming Lord of the Rings action title Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor, and my oh my, it is a doozy.
Live Action Shadow Of Mordor Short Film Has Great Fights, Terrible Hair
Subtitled in Japanese, the trailer offers a bit of a prelude to the main story in the game. We see our hero, the ranger Talion, witness his family's death before he is then slain himself. Suddenly awoken by a mysterious entity, the two, undead ranger and spirit (which is later revealed to be Celebrimbor, one of the forgers of the Rings of Power) are now on a quest to stop the reemergence of Sauron, the one who cursed them both.
It's a powerful trailer and speaks to the highly cinematic nature of the game. The story, approved as canon within J.R.R Tolkien's universe, looks extremely enticing. Having two of the most celebrated gaming voice actors, Nolan North and Troy Baker, there to lend their presence to the main characters certainly helps.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Trailer Gazes Into The Abyss
The new Nemesis system looks like it could fundamentally alter how enemy AI is constructed and developed. Each orc in the game will have a unique personality, and the ones that survive will remember you later. It could give us more a sense of the world than the last two Hobbit films.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor comes out for PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 30. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are due out on November 18. Watch the moody trailer below.
