Super Smash Bros. for 3DS just launched in Japan over the weekend, but the much-anticipated title has already sold over a million copies according to Nintendo.

The company posted a press release announcing the figure, which does represent the amount sold to consumers rather than shipped to retailers as is sometimes reported. The sales include both physical and digital copies.

The demo for North Americans launches at the end of this week on September 19, with the full game set for an October 3 release. The Wii U version is still without a release date, but Nintendo's may focus to coverage of the console edition as the 3DS version launches worldwide.
