Activision has announced that it has sold more than $500 million of Destiny to retail stores and first parties on the first day of launch alone.

While selling to stores is not the same as moving every one of those copies to consumers, it's fairly reasonable to conclude that Destiny has a bright commercial future ahead.
According to publisher Activision, Bungie's online shooter is the biggest new franchise launch ever, and highest-selling day one digital console release in history.

The $500 million figure in particular is significant, as it matches the budget spent on marketing and development of the title, which raised some eyebrows when revealed earlier this year. The publisher
