Walt Williams, the writer behind the third-person shooter Spec Ops: The Line has left 2K Games, the writer announced over Twitter.
Evolve Has Entered A "Big" Closed Alpha
Williams is credited as lead writer for Yager Development's 2012 game about a rescue mission in a post-catastrophic Dubai. At the time of its release, Spec Ops: The Line received multiple awards for its story from different video game websites.
During his Twitter announcement, Williams noted that his last two games with 2K will be Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve and Firaxis Games' Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth. As a simulator game, Beyond Earth will likely not be as narrative heavy as some of Williams' other projects, but strong writing does help games like these stand out from the pack. As for Evolve, the game has largely been marketed as a multiplayer game, but it will feature a single player campaign that Williams no doubt had a hand in crafting.

Williams also served as a story editor for BioShock 2.
Williams tweeted that he's not leaving games entirely but that he will be leaving AAA gaming. He said he'll be working "in the background" and that he'll be putting out some books, even though there "won't be a 'next game' for a while."
Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth will be coming to PCs on October 24. Evolve is set to hit next-gen systems and PCs on February 10.
