My friends, we live in age our younger selves could only dream of. Do you remember those 16 years between Jedi and Menace? The Dark Times? No longer will we have to suffer such indignity. Indeed, starting in next month, we will be getting a brand new CGI series, Star Wars: Rebels, to help fill the tiny gap that awaits us before Star Wars Episode VII next year.
Game Of Thrones' Syrio Forel Cast In Episode VII
The 5 episode season 1 will debut on Disney Channel. Rebels will take place 14 years after Episode III and about 5 years before Luke blew up the Death Star in Episode IV. A series of short clips have made their way on-line at roughly one a week. The latest, called Not What You Think, can be seen below.
The clip follows one of Rebels' newest characters, Ezra, as he comes face to face with a downed TIE Fighter after a small atmospheric skirmish. He reminds me somewhat of that other smooth faced huckster who's looking out for number one. No, not Han Solo, though there's plenty of Harrison Ford in him, but rather Aladdin.
First Teaser For Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 Hits The Net
Firstly, as stated in the Expanded Universe novels, which I know are now non-canon but this precedes them, there are no TIE Fighter survivors. A veteran TIE pilot is one of the rarest things in the universe. The Twin Ion Engine (TIE) design is built for speed and maneuverability but highly volatile. It's why they always explode in a puff of gas in the movies (that and low budgets). So Ezra would not even have the chance to find any wreckage, let alone a survivor.
Second, the short's title is quite mysterious as well. Not What You Think? Ezra shows remarkable speed and agility, and precision firing with his very cool looking slingshot. Might he be more than a simple thieving farmboy? The Force is strong with this one, methinks.
There is a lot of Star Wars coming our way. Disney is opening up the universe exponentially, at last breaking away from the Skywalker-centric point of view and bringing an entire galaxy of heroes and villains onto the big and little screens. Rebels is not the first, nor will it be the last, but it's Star Wars, so let's pay attention.
Star Wars: Rebels debuts on October 3 at 9 PM with a one hour special. The series proper begins on October 13 on the Disney XD channel. Watch the short below and tell us what you think.
