Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(TMNT), one of the most popular game brands for over two decades is planning a coming back. According to recent news reports from the New York Toy Fair, Activision, the famed publisher of the Call of Duty video game franchise, became a key licensee alongside comic publisher IDW. Ubisoft was the previous company to have held the TMNT license. Ubisoft produced that last TMNT game for the Nintendo Wii back in 2009 and before that Konami released several home console versions of the popular ninja turtle arcade games.
Having access to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle property has led to Activision working on several projects including plans to convert the iconic characters into a new video game according to Ninja Pizza reports. A video game would most likely happen as Nickelodeon plans on releasing a new TMNT CGI animation series in 2012.
Fans will also be thrilled to hear that a TMNT real action movie is also in the works. Director Jonathan Liebesman, who directed the big budget action film Battle: Los Angeles and the upcoming Wrath of the Titans, is negotiating with Paramount to lead the revamp. The TMNT film has not confirmed any casts or if it will be using all CGI animation or a mix of motion capture. There are plans that the new turtle flick will hit theatres in 2014.
