Tablet gaming revenue is expected to triple in the next five years, according to the analysts at Juniper Research in a report today. The firm expects tablet gaming to pull in a total of $3.6 billion of revenue this year. By 2019, revenues will hit $13.3 billion, over a threefold jump from this year, Juniper claimed.

Juniper's predictions are based on the same reasoning that made tablets popular in the first place; chiefly, consumer's desire for a simpler and more accessible computing experience. They also expect gaming revenue to increase as the storage capacity, battery power and processor speeds (all crucial for gaming needs) of future tablets increase.
The bullish expectations for tablet gaming goes against some evidence that the tablet market is "crashing," at least according to Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly in an interview with Re/Code.

The tablet market in its current form was more or less invented by Apple founder Steve Jobs and the iPad, his last game-changing tech device before passing in 2011. In the four years since, the market has exploded and what was once an "iPad market" has seen competition from all over the tech spectrum.
Even still, tablets are becoming more and more like laptops (or are laptops becoming more and more like tablets?). Juniper's expectations for gaming, a major revenue driver for any device, suggests the future will come without a keyboard.
