Anomaly 2, the sequel to the original "tower offense" game Anomaly: Warzone Earth, will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 in September, and it's bringing a graphics upgrade and multiplayer mode with it.
Starting September 16, PS4 owners will be able to grab Anomaly 2 and take a turn protecting Earth from the invasion of alien machines. Originally released in 2013 for PC by 11 bit studios, Anomaly 2 follows up on the gameplay idea started by the original Anomaly, which took the traditional tower defense game format and reversed the roles so the computer is surviving the player's onslaught of combat units.
Anomaly 2 added to this concept with its multiplayer mode, which lets two players take on both sides of the war: One fortifies his position with turrets and other high-caliber fixtures while the other stockpiles an entire convoy of heavily armed units to try to break through the enemy's defenses. Now this gameplay is headed to the PS4, along with a HD graphics boost to make sure it's taking full advantage of Sony's hardware.
Even Sony Doesn't Quite Know Why The PS4 Is Selling So Well
The narrative of Anomaly 2 follows the human race after an alien invasion in 2018 (mark your calendars). Over time, the aliens have become the masters of Earth's terrain, and humans are the ones scrambling for resources and trying to retake their planet. One man's squad of combatants could turn the tide back toward the home team. The game includes alternate endings depending on how the player engages the enemy.
Anomaly 2 will hit the PS4 for $14.99.
