Spotify Updates Windows Phone Version for Free Streaming

Spotify made a Windows Phone version of its app available earlier this year, but until now it did not include streaming or playlists without a subscription.

The update brings the Windows Phone version of the app up to the same functionality as the iOS and Android versions. Originally, mobile versions of Spotify required a subscription to Spotify Premium, but the company changed its mind last year and started rolling out these free mobile apps that match Spotify's desktop experience.

Windows Phone users can now experience Spotify's deep library of millions of tracks, create and shuffle through playlists or focus on one artist and go far into a catalog. The update includes Spotify's large arena of pre-created playlists, many of which are worth checking out. The serviuce offers playlists for specific activities, like working out, or soundtracks tailored to moods, genres or decades. Those are all available in the Browse section.

Not only did they release the full free version of the app for Windows Phone, Spotify tweaked the existing version, cleaning up the search feature and making Browse easier to use.

The free Spotify app is available right now for smartphones running on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It's available in the Windows app store.
